What’s this blog for?

This is a study project on the effects of the outside world on the creation of a fictional story. I want to find out to what extent the world events affect the writing of my third novel and whether or not they have an impact on the story and character development.

I am posting various thought that may be representative of what goes through my head as I try to build up mental state that will give birth to the novel.

You’ve heard about actors taking on jobs that will help them get into the head of a character they have to portray. Well, writers are no different.

What I post here may not necessary represent my beliefs, and works as a drug that grows the skin of a character over my own. To write about revolutionaries I must be a revolutionary, to write about a thief I must be a thief, to write about a Zionist I must be a Zionist, to write about a suicide bomber I must be… well, not quite, but you get the picture.

I want to be as objective as possible but I know I can and will get carried away.

What I’m hoping to achieve with this project is to determine the extent to which my private life, events surrounding it as well as events taking place elsewhere in the World bear impact on the story.

As an example: My second novel includes elements of real life events. To mention just one: the protagonist is an ex CIA man, who quit the Company in protest for its manufacturing of fake intelligence that led to the Invasion of Iraq. The novel was written between Spring 2004 – Fall 2005, and giving the main character this particular background was a direct response to what was happening in the World. Is it good for the novel? Time will tell.

In the newest novel the protagonists ‘borrow’ certain characterstics and biographical details from Jesuits who fought for and died in the name of justice…They fight against the socio-political and economic slavery imposed on the World by the USA…

From a stint at a dreary communist factory, playing soccer for a major league club, earning a green belt in Kyok-sul (North Korean combat school), and studying for a medical and an engineering degree, to couriering government information (Top-Secret, no less!), brushing with the biggest VIPs in the Nation (some of them opportunist crooks who should rot in jail), playing cat-and-mouse game with thugs from military police and being denied entry to the US, I also like to boast that I do not own a suit and made the brave step into a world without cable TV.
