Snail Soup

Wednesday, 8 August, 2007

Today I am under mariachi spell. Since the humidity is lower I am working in the backyard. As is often the case I seek inspiration in music, or rather – I treat it as garnish. As the novel I’m writing takes place in Latin America the music compliments it.

Today several hits ran one after another, and (not surprisingly) I could not fight the urgent need to dance. Well, when I say dance I mean Elaine from Seinfeld. The catchy music brought some neighbors out. Before I knew it Dave from behind the dense Virginia Creeper was in a trance too…

Some of the addictive tunes:

Sopa de Caracol (snail soup)

Mariachi Loco

Camaron Pelao

Las Pelotas

Las Mañanitas

Que se mueran los feos

Cielito Lindo performed by a popular Tuna band from San Miguel de Allende

  1. A mariachi from Colima recorded a popurri of cumbias. It’s fifteen minutes long and includes most of the songs you mentioned in this blog post.
